Our new “Free and Safe in Cyberspace” event will be held in Brussels on Sept 24-25th
On September 24th-25th 2015, in Brussels, Belgium, we’ll hold the wrkshop Free and Safe in Cyberspace: The role of new IT security paradigms and certifications, in delivering constitutionally-meaningful e-privacy to all, while preserving public safety and cyber-investigation.
Through TED-style keynotes and intense debate sessions, we will bring together EU and US foremost IT security experts (such as Bruce Schneier and Bart Preneel), EU civil rights and security institutions (EIT ICT Labs and EU Directorate-General of Justice, European Defense Agency), digital civil rights NGOs, IT security industry leaders, to face head-on 2 crucial challenges for the impact of IT on the prospects of human freedom, which we think may be interlinked.
CHALLENGE A. Is it feasible to provide ordinary EU citizens access to affordable and user-friendly end-2-end IT services with constitutionally-meaningful [1] levels of user-trustworthiness, as a supplement to their every-day computing devices? If so, how?
CHALLENGE B. Provided that Challenge A can be met, is it feasible to substantially reconcile meaningful privacy for all, with effective cyber-investigation for due process lawful access? If so, how?
