UVST standard and R&D presented at EIT ICT Labs Cyber Privacy & Security event in Rome
On Dec 11th 2014, User Verified Social Telematics was presented at the event How to guarantee security without loosing privacy?, organized by the EIT ICT Labs Privacy, Security and Trust Action Line, lead by Jovan Golic. Full program in english (pdf).Profile of participating entities (pdf).
We were invited as panelist and involved in the organization. We invited and confirmed 3 of the 4 top level Italian civilian agencies that are responsible for the policies and initiatives in the area of high-assurance privacy and security, including n.2 of AGID, n.1 of FUB and n.1 of ISCOM. During the PM session 2-4pm, Jovan Golic, Prof. Yvo Desmedt and Rufo Guerreschi have moderated an open discussion.
During its keynote Dec 11th, Stefano Quintarelli (invited and met by us last week), the President of the Strategic Committee of the Italian Digital Agenda Agency (AGID) talked extensively about its legislative proposal (link) for mandatory “documented hardware“, which is a Richard Stallman inspired proposal that became law in 2012 in the Region of Puglia. AGID has been charged with the definition of new IT security and privacy standards for the government, in conjunction with the Military Advisor to the Prime Minister, according to the Prime Minister’s just released Digital Growth Strategy 2014-2020 (see page 43-44 of the pdf). The Puglia legislative template was used by our Exec. Director Rufo Guerreschi and Richard Stallman to initiate and lead a similar proposal for a Region of Lazio proposal, but extended to include the entire UVST requirements, which was presented officially by the 2nd largest party on April 2014. The technical description of such legislative proposal was literally the former UVST definition.
During our panel session, we presented UVST, and in particular its proposal for a UVST-based international public-private standard setting initiative, and related proof-of-concept R&D project, addressed to AGID and other public and private entities, as a case for the great opportunity for Italy to increase (1) the privacy of citizens, businesses and elected officials, (2) the security of the State and (3) provide a global competitive advantage in a strategic emerging niche.
Here my speech in full format (sorry, ITALIAN for now). It’s title: AFFERMAZIONE STANDARD ICT PER MASSIMI LIVELLI DI CYBER-PRIVACY E CYBER-SECURITY, COMPATIBILI CON ATTIVITA’ INVESTIGATIVE INVESTIGATIVE COSTITUZIONALI, COME GRANDE OPPORTUNITA’ ECONOMICA PER L’ITALIA E L’EUROPA
